Sheryl Lee Ralph and Sen. Vincent Hughes

Though it's been a month since the DNC, I still feel inspired by the speakers, the excitement and the momentum that was created by a multitude of people who want more for this country.

My most momentous occasion was being inside the Pepsi Center and hearing the crowd roar during Hillary Clinton's speech. Everyone agreed, she looked and spoke presidential. It was essential to us that we heard her speak about Barack Obama, and our need to vote for him. She did an extraordinary job!

My second most momentous occasion was losing my crew! We became separated as they were gathering footage of the outside of the Pepsi Center. I always tell myself, there is a reason for everything. I was a little frustrated because I desperately needed a camera to interview people walking out of the center, I truly wanted to her what others thought of Hillary's speech. So, as I was busy trying to find Jack and Larry Hammel, my crew, they were landing an interview that, to this day, gives me goosebumps every time I see it.

Jack and Larry spoke with Pennsylvania Senator Vincent Hughes and actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, and asked them what they thought about Hillary's speech. Ms. Ralph and Sen. Hughes spoke with the eloquence and excitement that the Obama camp is generating and spurring on. For the first time, after eight years, I'm finding hope in my heart for this beautiful country. Sen. Hughes and Ms. Ralph, thank you for giving Project Breakout your time and this interview.

A DNC Activist Who Gets Things Done!

John McCain wants to delay the debates! My Dad thinks he's being a candy ass.

I am quite certain that Mr. Bill Moyer of the Backbone Campaign would tell him to get a spine! Actually, something tells me that Mr. Moyer has already told McCain to do so.

Bill Moyer is the executive director and co-founder of the Backbone Campaign, an amazing grass-roots organization that seeks accountability in citizens and elected officials and asks them to embrace and uphold progressive values.

Bill's ideas and insights are reflective of some our world's greatest thinkers, such as Thomas Jefferson, Socrates ... Jon Stewart. (smiley face)

But, what particularly impresses me with Bill is his gumption to go into the halls of congress, the steps of The Hill and the offices of our elected officials and ask, outright, that these officials find some accountability for their actions! I love that!

What I also love is that he threatens to humiliate these leaders with Spineless Citations and Golden Spine Awards. He's a man after my own heart!

Denver Police and the DNC

As some of you know, and don’t know, I wanted to get an interview with Director of Denver Security for the DNC, Frank Conner. My intention was three fold: one, he’s a friend of the family and his little sister was my best friend when I was significantly younger. Two, I have some dirt on him when he and my brothers used to hang out … nothing too incriminating. More than likely, he’d have you believe that the Birchaks were completely to blame for any serious infractions. (Insert smiley face here.) Three, it would have been one hell of an interview with THE Director of Security for the DNC!

Unfortunately, Frank was busy, VERY busy. It’s OK, Frank, I forgive you. (Smiley, again.)

I DID manage to snag two great interviews relating to Denver security, though.

The first was an awesome interview with Frank’s mom, Margie Conner. Let me tell you, if I were ever in need of another mom, I’d probably choose Margie. If I could choose one word to describe her, it would be effervescent. She is bubbly, exciting, and hilarious! I just absolutely love her! So, needless to say, my interview with her was one of my favorites. Check out her reaction when I ask her about paparazzi.

Then I did an interview with Sonny Jackson, the PIO for the Denver Police Department. Sonny was kind enough to come down and interview with little ol’ me at Civic Park during the festivities at the DNC. I know he was probably busy, so I am very grateful for this interview. Thank you Sonny! My advice to you Sonny: If you ever consider yoga again, go for the two-inch thick yoga pad. (Insert smiley with sunglasses.)

Overall, my experience with the Denver Police was wonderful. My camera crew was very impressed, which made me very proud of my home town. They were all so very hot nice, and so nice to look at pleasant to talk with. It was like being at Disney Land – they were just happy, calm people. Oh, and did I mention that they looked incredibly gorgeous in those uniforms were so nice?!

Obama Delegates at the DNC

While in Denver reporting on the DNC, I met two super-charged Obama delegates! Tim Allison and Sherry Holland were kind enough to grant me an interview, share their driven passion for Obama to win the Presidency and explain to me how they became delegates. Thank you Tim and Sherry!

Stop Staring at Palin and Pay Attention!!!

In case you've been too busy drooling over milf Palin, I just thought I'd let you know that America has been date raped.

In the last week, the DOW has continued to plummet, U.S. seized control of AIG (which according to former CEO Hank Greenberg, didn't need to happen), Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy and Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley is barely hanging on. This country is so deeply in debt because of our stupid president's war, that we are now surviving on Chinese loans (no shit, look it up!).
 

Amidst it all, the world's dumbest man (i.e. President Bush) says he's, "working hard" to calm the turmoil market. Working hard?!!! After all these years, he's decided to work hard? To borrow a joke from SNL, do you think he's working on Saturdays now? Possibly ordering in pizza?

Rednecks at the DNC

While in Denver reporting on the DNC, I met this group! (I couldn't resist asking them if they ate squirrel.)

McCain and Me are Practically Twins!

Last night. RNC. Camera rolling, spot lights on, enter camera hog Fred Thompson. As if Die Hard and the Rosanne show weren’t enough, Thompson vied his wrinkly face for the camera in an effort to make McCain look like a spring chicken.

His speech copied Bush’s speech and laid out the platform for future speakers, so that, in true Republican style, they won’t have to think for themselves. What did he talk about? Hmmmm, let’s see. McCain is a POW. Got it! His arms were broken. Check. He was offered to be released from the Hanoi Hilton early but refused because he’s a martyr. Okee dokes!

Just to make sure that we were paying attention, Democratic traitor, Joseph Lieberman reiterated that McCain is a POW, his arms were broken and he refused to let go early while at the Hanoi Hilton.

I now understand. Ladies and Gentleman, in 1983 I broke my right foot, and in 2004 I broke my left foot. Additionally, I was held at Washington DC’s Mandarin Hotel (Presidential Suite) against my will. OK, I was naked and getting a massage. And, like McCain, I’m a martyr and I use Botox. So, I’ve been hurt, I’ve been denied and my face isn’t what it appears. This makes me the perfect choice for President! Gab Runs For President!!

Back from the DNC

Since I’ve been back from the DNC, I’ve been a whirling dervish getting my boys ready for school. Supplies. Check. Hair cuts. Check. New underwear. Check.

Being a mom certainly takes me out of the surreal, and plants me square into reality.

I certainly couldn’t have made this trip to Denver if it weren’t for the nation’s best Audio/Visual Technical Director and Husband, Joe Birkman, who played Mr. Mom effortlessly. Though messy, the house was intact, the kids were calm and well fed, and all the cat hork had been cleaned up. Great job Joe! Thank you! I love you more than words can say. Heck I love you more than a mouth can say.

Also, I want to give a very special thanks to Jack and Larry Hammel, who worked their butts off to make me look and sound good during the DNC. Jack, my camera operator, runs Astoria Video in Astoria, NY (http://www.astoriavideo.com) and Larry, the all-around great guy and audio geek, runs Deep Wave Music, also in Astoria, NY (http://www.deepwavemusic.com).

If you are ever in NY and in need of audio or video, I highly, highly, highly recommend these guys. They are probably the two hardest working people I’ve ever met.

A special thanks to Sadie and Ron Ben-Ari, owners of Leela’s European Café. Thanks for opening up your doors to us, providing a haven for awesome food and great beer. Our last day shooting was very special to me, hanging out with Jack, Larry, Cole (our driver), Sadie and her friends. Probably one of the most relaxing days of my life.
